Fungineers

Fungineers is a group of international PEV developers that produce onewheel/balance-wheel components. Fungineers are well respected in the VESC community and collaborate with prominent community members to design onewheel components. Fungineers manufacture all the components required to assemble a onewheel electric skateboard, including the powerful Superflux motor generally considered the best onewheel motor, the popular Thor301 and Thor400 controllers, X7 and X10 rails, the Stompies footpad sensor, and the VESCxFUN BMS.

At the end of 2024 they announced they would also sell the Funwheel X7 (X7 Sport), a complete board using the Superflux motor, Thor 301 controller, X7 rails, Stompies foot pad, VESCxFUN BMS with a UN38.3 certified 403Wh Molicel P28A battery, and fitted with The Float Life B.A.N.G. Bumpers. In 2025 this was updated to 432Wh Molicel P30B cells with Fungineers Bumpers.

In 2025 Fungineers added the Funwheel X7 Long Range board, similar to the X7 Sport but using a 720 Wh split 20S2P Samsung 50S battery. They also announced the X7 Supercharged, with a 134 Volt 32S1P Molicel P45B battery pack and Thor 400 controller it is the most powerful production onewheel available.

In early 2026 Fungineers also introduced the smaller Superflux 5 inch (127 mm) motor, for lighter onewheel builds and allowing more tyre sidewall (thicker tyres) for a softer ride.

Fungineers place an emphasis on ensuring freedom for riders to build and repair their own board, including the use of third-party components. For riders that have access to a 3D printer or CNC machine there are Funwheel parts and accessory designs available on printables.com and pubparts.xyz.

Our December Fungineers shipment is now almost completely sold out, so we’ve opened up preorders for our next Fungineers shipment in February.

We have free shipping to NZ residential addresses. Please note our comments about “active ownership” if you are located far from our workshop.

Fungineers Funwheel X7

Please note that the X7 is in very high demand internationally so NZ stock is limited. Any X7 model listed as in-stock can be purchased for local pickup from our Orakei showroom or with free delivery NZ-wide. A model listed as available on back-order will be included in our next Fungineers shipment – please just contact us for anticipated delivery time frames.

Fungineers Servicing

Fungineers and Atomic EV support the consumer’s Right To Repair for onewheels, so you are allowed to undertake some servicing yourself without voiding warranty. We do recommend only experienced people swap out electronic components and care is required with connecting/disconnecting the battery – particularly for the split pack in the X7 LR.

We do provide full warranty support and servicing for the Fungineers range in our workshop and have support options for our customers that are located outside NZ.

Overseas Fungineers Customers

Overseas customers who purchase from us are still covered by NZ’s very consumer-friendly laws (and NZ’s patent laws around onewheel electric skateboards rather than those in the US or Australia). Purchases made through our website include 15% NZ GST which cannot be “reclaimed”, so overseas customers should instead contact us for payment and anticipated delivery time frames. We also can help you ship (at or below cost) across the South Pacific and to Australia. Instead of the NZ 15% GST expect to instead be charged GST/VAT (such as 10% GST on entry into Australia) and potentially tariffs depending on your home country.

Fungineers and Atomic EV

Atomic EV is the authorised distributor, retailer and service centre for the Fungineers range in New Zealand and South Pacific. From November 2025 have stocked the Funwheel X7 in-store, gradually expanding the range to include their individual components.

Fungineers Warranty

Fungineers products have delivered exceptional performance in the toughest of terrains. Be it world speed records with the Superflux, or Thor controllers being run with the best riders in the European Onewheel League races. They know their products are extremely reliable and robust, and stand by them with a one year repair or replace warranty for the motor, controller, BMS, and battery (except in cases of user error).

Onewheels, and particularly VESC-based onewheels rely on complex components working together in somewhat hostile conditions, often with components sourced from different manufacturers, and there are many configuration options which affect the ride. Even for a new board that is “ready to ride” VESC ownership is often described as an “active ownership” – if something does go wrong and if it is impractical to get the product back to our workshop for repair then you may need to get your hands a bit dirty to help diagnose or replace a component with support from Fungineers and Atomic EV. No need for an engineering qualification, but being able to use a screwdriver is handy if you are located far from our workshop.
